Impossible Plant-Based Burger with Caramelized Onions

Plant based patties on a pretzle bun, topped with carmelized red onions, secret sauce, arugula, and frseh tomato.

  • 4 pretzle hamburger buns
  • 1 beef tomato, sliced
  • 1.5 cups arugula
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 lb. impossible or beyond plant based meat
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1.75 tsp salt

Carmelized Red Onions

  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • salt and epper

Secret Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp parsley
  • 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove, minced


  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and butter. Add the sliced red onions and carmelize over medium heat for about 20 minutes, stirirng often.
  • In a large bowl mix the garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, chili powder, and salt. Add the plant based meat and mix until combined using hands. Form the plant based meat into 4 flat patties.
  • To make the secret sauce mix together the mayo, ketchup, parsley, fresh lemon juice, and garlic.
  • Grill the patties on the BBQ for about 4 minutes per side. For the last 1.5 minutes of grilling throw the piece of cheddar cheese ontop of each patty. Place the buns, face side down on the grill for 1-2 minutes until toasted.
  • Assemble the burgers with secret sauce, arugula, and fresh sliced tomato.
